PHILIP MAZZEI
An Italian American hero…in America
From an Idea by Francesco Fulcini
Music by Ronald McIntyre & Govinda Gari
Libretto by Paolo Tartamella
Directed by Vittorio Capotorto
World Premiere to open July 12, 2007 at Central Park.
Sunny, brave, hungry of life: Philip Mazzei is
the ultimate Italian American icon. Not only as a clever
trader of Italian products in Turkey, England, and especially
America. Not only as an ambassador of style, who took the
Italian tailoring in the wardrobe of the Founding Fathers
of United States. But mostly for his passion in spreading
the values of freedom and respect for life, that only a
restless and generous traveller like him could really understand.
Like many historic figures, Philip Mazzei
distinguishes himself for his public acts, but also for
an enthralling private life. Teatromania strives to go through
the bio surface of this yet little known man, to tell the
drama of all of those who, chasing their dreams, choose
to live between two different worlds.
The show, developed by artists of both countries, combines
the long tradition of Italian theater of telling everyday
life, to the ability of the American musical to gather people
around big stories. To achieve these results the original
idea of Francesco Fulcini, has been developed with the original
music score from Ron Mc Intyre, and the inspired and experienced
direction of Vittorio Capotorto.
